The religious order, Mercedarians' founding, dates to a time when countries and rulers were conquerors. It was when people pushed one ideal, and everyone was subjected to one faith. Therefore, Christians who were captured could not declare their faith because it meant risking their lives. According to Mercy Home, Our Lady of Mercy appeared to several people, including St. Peter Nolasco, St. Reymond of Pennafort, and King James of Aragon, which led the three of them to start the religious order and free the captured Christians. The Mercedarians stepped up for those who were suppressed and held captive. They also recognized poverty and addressed people who were in need. Ronnel Gonzales led the KLL Athletics Men's Division by securing three gold medals in the 1500m, 800m, and 200m dash, while Kristoferzon Carillo contributed two silver medals in the same events. Joshua Villalobos added a silver medal in the 100m dash. In the 4x400m relay, Gian Alvarez, Ronnel Gonzales, Rommel Gonzales, Villalobos, and Carillo clinched the gold medal, while Norvino Bituin and Tristan Endozo helped Gonzales and Villalobos secured the silver medal. Even though he was unable to participate on the battlefield, he inspired the people to fight for independence with the help of pen and paper and his wisdom. On April 10, 2007, Republic Act 9430—which designates July 23 as “Apolinario Mabini Day” and a “special working holiday”—was signed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, but only in Tanauan City. Mabini, known as the “sublime paralytic” due to his polio, was a key figure in the revolution against Spanish and American colonial rule, earning him the title of one of the “brains of the revolution.” Born on July 23, 1864, he died on May 13, 1903, in Manila at the age of 38, shortly after returning from exile in Guam.
