The College of Communication Arts successfully commenced the first day of its three-day department celebration on October 15 at LASCA, with the theme "Creating a Space that Promotes Creativity and Leads to a Future of Possibilities."
Several activities and programs were organized to fill the event with fun and excitement.
The celebration kicked off with a warm welcome message from Ms. Geraldine S. Tobias, who expressed her heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to all the students and staff who worked tirelessly to make the event possible.
The festivities began with an exhilarating Amazing Race designed to test the students' teamwork skills, followed by a lively Dance Craze. The event also featured performances from students, showcasing their diverse talents.
One of the highlights of the event was a discussion by Mr. Merwin Javier, a cum laude graduate from Batangas State University, a former news operation specialist and writer-researcher at ABS-CBN Southern Tagalog, a multiplatform journalist for TV Patrol, ANC, DZMM Teleradio, Bandila, and Headline Pilipinas, and currently serves as a researcher and analyst at the International News Desk of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. He shared his experiences in the field of journalism and imparted valuable insights on effective news writing and the evolving media landscape, making the session both informative and inspiring for students.
"From the previous job I have with TV Patrol Southern Tagalog, it is evident that we amplify stories and we write for the people. Isa ito sa pinakamahalaga na dapat matutunan natin sa pagsulat. Maybe some of you will ask, e boring naman ang pagsulat, e hindi naman ako para sa pagsulat, or nasa communication department ako dahil wala akong choice or naubusan ako ng slot. Same scenario or things apply to different people. Writing for the people, again we amplify stories," he further stated.
The event continued with a discussion led by Ms. Clarisse Ann Dalangin, which focused on equipping CCA students with essential digital skills for career readiness, ensuring that they are well-prepared for the demands of the modern workforce.
As the event progressed, CCA students continuously showcased their skills and capabilities in a variety of competitions, demonstrating their competitiveness in an Impromptu Speaking Contest, followed by an intense Debate Competition. The event concluded with an impressive Speech Choir performance, leaving the audience in awe of the students’ vocal talents.
As the first day of the event wrapped up, students departed with a renewed sense of excitement for the upcoming activities, eager to continue their engagement in the days ahead.
