Emilio Aguinaldo, a rebel from the Philippines, designed the country's present flag in 1897. It is a bicolor horizontal design with crimson red over royal blue. First flown after the Battle of Alapan on May 28, 1898, the flag features a white equilateral triangle at the hoist with a golden sun with eight rays in the middle and a five-pointed gold star at each vertex.   By: Michelle Villanueva Photo By: Jhon Lenard Abawag In her silver gown adorned with pink flowers, Ms. Joyce Olgado, alongside her partner, Mr. James Francisco, brought pride to Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa (KLL) as they participated in Lipa City Grand Santacruzan 2024 on May 24, 2024, in San Sebastian Cathedral Lipa. Furthermore, Ms. Olgado shared her experience during the entire event. “It was amazing and tiring at the same time,” she stated. “Pero masarap sa pakiramdam ‘yong experience na makasama sa ganitong event sa community natin. Especially, it was an honor to be chosen to represent Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa.” Prior to preparation, she mentioned that it was simply her goal to attend the event. She also shared her gratitude with the people who helped her and her partner throughout the preparation. Since 2019, 11 countries have legalized marriage equality. The World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, we acknowledge the commitment and altruism of the individuals who passionately strive to reduce human distress and uphold the values of compassion, fairness, humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and staff are often the first to respond to a crisis or disaster.  On this day, we celebrate those who give their time, and sometimes their lives, to ease the suffering of others and protect their inherent human dignity.

World Press Freedom Day: Speak, your voice matters!

Freedom of the press provides individuals and organizations the right to express, publish, and share information, ideas, and opinions without fear of censorship or government interference. It does not cover things like defamation, hate speech, and incitement to violence. It also holds the powerful accountable, and share information that educates the public. World Press Freedom Day was declared by the UN General Assembly (UNGA). Furthermore,it was first celebrated in 1993, following the recommendation of the General Conference of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). The date May 3 was chosen to commemorate the Windhoek Declaration, a statement of press freedom principles put forth by African journalists in Windhoek, Namibia, in 1991.  However, the United Nations' 1948 Universal Declaration of H
