Every February 4, people pay tribute to the Philippine-American War. It may be considered an extension of the Philippine Revolution against Spanish rule, which took place during the Philippine–American War.

After Spain's defeat in the Spanish-American War, the Treaty of Paris was signed which granted the United States control over the Philippines. To prevent the Philippines from gaining independence, the US attempted to annex the country. This resulted in the leaders of the Filipino people, who governed the entire archipelago except Manila, retaliating.

The Philippine-American War raged between the US and Filipino revolutionaries from 1899 to 1902. Although some fighting continued for several years, the US declared an official end to the war in 1902. Except for World War II, the United States maintained complete control over the archipelago until 1946.

As we celebrate this day, we honor the bravery and selflessness of the men and women who fought and gave their lives to defend the Philippines during the Philippine-American War.
