Ash Wednesday, Holy Day of Prayer and Fasting

"Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

Each year, Catholics begin the Lent season by putting an ash cross on their forehead to commemorate the life and hardships of Jesus.

By putting ash, Catholics show their repentance and recognize their mortality. This ash is made from burned blessed palm leaves used in last year's Palm Sunday when people welcomed Jesus’s arrival in Jerusalem before being crucified.

To strengthen their faith, people penance by fasting that continues for 6 weeks until Easter Sunday, the day of His resurrection.

May this season of reflection and renewal bring spiritual growth and peace to all who partake in it.
